Gotham Isn’t Done With Him Yet
Three years after the chilling, rain-soaked brilliance of The Batman, director Matt Reeves is officially back with The Batman Part II—and not only is the script finished, but DC execs are reportedly thrilled.
🦇 According to Variety and corroborated by Screen Rant, the script was finalized in late June 2025, with production slated to begin later this year. Colin Farrell, who recently spoke with Screen Rant and other outlets, revealed he hasn’t yet read the script—but teased something even bigger: a third Batman movie is already being whispered behind studio walls.
With the October 1, 2027 release date still on track, it’s time to break down what to expect—and who might be lurking in the shadows.
🔥 The Confirmed & The Likely: What We Know So Far
🎬 Matt Reeves & Mattson Tomlin: Co-writers on the sequel. Script delivered and greenlit.
🧊 Colin Farrell: Confirmed return as Penguin. He’s unsure about Season 2 of The Penguin, but is likely returning in film format.
🎭 Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle: A high-likelihood return. Her unfinished arc and family tie to Sofia Falcone (via The Penguin) gives her a strong narrative hook.
🧃 Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon: From gritty lieutenant to Commissioner, his transition will add weight to Gotham’s internal power dynamics.
Casting officially begins this fall, according to The Wrap.
🦉 5 Potential Villains That Could Redefine Gotham
1. The Court of Owls
An elite secret society that controls Gotham from the shadows. Reeves and Pattinson have both hinted at interest in this dark and cerebral arc. With The Batman already unraveling Gotham’s corrupt elite, the Court is a perfect next step—and yes, the Talons could bring haunting action to the screen.
“Beware The Court of Owls, that watches all the time…”
2. Sofia Falcone aka Sofia Gigante
Cristin Milioti’s Emmy-nominated turn in The Penguin was unforgettable. She’s mob royalty with a grudge and an Arkham record. Her half-sister connection to Catwoman and her descent into madness make her one of the most interesting female villains to potentially grace a Batman sequel.
3. Mr. Freeze
It’s been almost 30 years since the icy villain last hit the big screen (with mixed results). With Gotham flooded post-The Batman, Mr. Freeze’s tech and tragic arc could thrive in Reeves' noir world—especially if portrayed as a grieving genius, not a pun machine.
4. The Scarecrow
Hallucinogenic terror? Yes please. With The Batman diving into psychological territory, Jonathan Crane’s fear toxin could elevate the sequel into nightmare-fueled cinema. Imagine Reeves' take on a horror-tinged Scarecrow using fear against a still-traumatized Bruce.
5. Professor Hugo Strange
Arkham Asylum’s most unnerving doctor hasn’t made it to the big screen yet—but he may be the most fitting villain for this story. Strange could unearth Bruce’s secrets and drive him toward madness in a way no brute-force villain could.
🧠 Themes: Vengeance to Hope
The Batman ended with Bruce realizing vengeance isn’t enough. He must become a symbol of hope. Reeves says this second film will still focus on Bruce’s emotional arc—villains won’t overshadow him.
Expect a shift from rage to resilience. A Batman trying to inspire, while being haunted by the dark machinery of Gotham’s underworld.
🎭 Casting Wish List & Side Villains
Some fun side picks fans are buzzing about:
Tweedledee & Tweedledum for comic relief
Ventriloquist and Scarface for twisted nightclub subplots
Harvey Dent or even Gilda Dent as wildcards if Reeves explores The Long Halloween further

“There's Batman 2… and then there's Batman 3.”

Could Matt Reeves be developing both films back-to-back? The speculation is heating up.
🧥 What We Don’t Want: DCU Crossovers
Let The Batman stay in its Elseworlds lane. No Superman cameos. No Justice League hints. Reeves’ Gotham thrives in isolation—dark, stylized, and free from multiverse clutter.
🧠 What Fans Want: A Final Checklist
✅ Pattinson’s Bruce with a fake playboy persona
✅ More introspective noir narration
✅ A “cool” Commissioner Gordon era
✅ Full return of Selina Kyle
✅ Sofia Gigante vs. Batman showdown
✅ One major villain (Court, Scarecrow, Freeze, Strange)
✅ Psychological tension, not action bloat
✅ Zero DCU tie-ins

Stylized Gotham cityscape with shadowy Batman and symbolic villain silhouettes including an owl mask, ice shard, and syringe, representing potential villains in The Batman Part II.
